Okay, here’s my story about the “scorpio child” thing, hope you guys find it interesting!
So, I’ve been trying to get this birth certificate for my kid, and man, what a pain! I started out trying to do it online. I thought, “Okay, this should be easy, right?” Nope. The website was like a maze. I clicked around, found a page that looked promising, it said something like, “This service allows you to conveniently renew your driver’s license or state ID card online.” Wait, what? I need a birth certificate, not a driver’s license! I went back and tried to find where to obtain a birth certificate, it said “Order Online”, that’s what I did the last time, and it didn’t work!
I spent like an hour clicking through, I didn’t even know what I was looking for. It’s like they designed it to be confusing. Finally, I gave up on that. It’s like they don’t want you to do it online. What a joke!
Next, I thought I’d try calling. “Order by Phone” it said. Easy, right? I found the number on the Cook County website, this whole thing was a “public service,” apparently. I dialed and waited. And waited. And waited. I think I was on hold for like 40 minutes! My friend Elena, she’s a real sweetheart, she always texts me to check in. She sent me a message while I was on hold, and I told her what I was going through. She couldn’t believe it either.
When someone finally picked up, they were no help at all. They just told me to go to the website! I told them the website was useless, but they didn’t care. They gave me some other options, like going to a “Currency Exchange” or visiting “in person.” Seriously? Who has time for that?
Then I saw another thing, “Make an Appointment.” Oh great, another hoop to jump through. I clicked on “Find a DMV Facility.” DMV? What does the Department of Motor Vehicles have to do with a birth certificate? This is insane!
- First, I tried the online thing, that was a disaster.
- Second, I called, and that was a waste of time.
- Third, they told me to go in person, like I have nothing better to do.
- Fourth, I found out they want me to make an appointment, at the DMV of all places!
There was something about DNA, adjacent thymine bases, and covalent links, whatever that means. It said, “Uses a single mechanism to repair multiple kinds of lesions in DNA.” Sounds complicated. Also, there was a line from “the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.” It didn’t help at all. Maybe it’s related, I have no idea.
Honestly, I’m about ready to give up. Getting a simple birth certificate shouldn’t be this hard. It’s like they’re trying to make it as difficult as possible.
