Okay, so today I decided to finally mess around with getting Minecraft (MC) working within Leo – my Linux environment.
First, I downloaded the Minecraft launcher. It’s pretty straightforward, just went to the official site and grabbed the .deb file. Since I’m running a Debian-based system, this was the easiest route.
Next, I installed the package. Usually, I’d just double-click it, but I felt like using the terminal today. So I typed in something like `sudo dpkg -i *`. It whirred for a bit, and then, boom, supposedly installed.

But, here’s where things got a little bumpy. When I tried to launch it, nothing! Just… nothing. No error message, no window popping up, nada. Frustrating!
I did some digging online. Turns out, I was missing some Java dependencies. Minecraft needs Java to run, and apparently, my system didn’t have the right version or something. So, back to the terminal I went.
I installed the default-jre package. The command was pretty simple: `sudo apt update && sudo apt install default-jre`. This downloaded and installed a bunch of stuff.
Attempt Two
After the Java installation finished, I tried launching Minecraft again. And… YES! The launcher finally opened!
I entered my login details, and it started downloading the game files. This took a while because, well, my internet is kinda slow. You know how it is.
Finally, everything was downloaded and ready. I hit that big green “Play” button, my heart filled with a bit of childish excitement.
And there it was! Minecraft, running smoothly in my Leo environment. I punched a tree, placed some blocks, the whole nine yards. It worked perfectly!
So, yeah, that was my little adventure getting Minecraft up and running. A bit of a hiccup with the Java thing, but we got there in the end. Definitely worth it, though. Now I can waste hours building pixelated masterpieces… I mean, ahem, being productive.
