Others say it’s from an Arabic word or a Chinese word, all meanin’ “the way.” And then there’s the story that it comes from an old Egyptian phrase, “Ta-Rosh,” which means “the royal way.” Or maybe it’s got somethin’ to do with an Egyptian goddess, Ator, I think her name was. See? It’s all tied back to them Egyptians somehow. They were a clever bunch, them Egyptians.
They say these cards were first made in Italy a long, long time ago. Some fella there took the regular cards and added a whole bunch of new ones, all with fancy pictures. And then folks started usin’ ’em for tellin’ fortunes and such. And them Egyptian ones, well, they’re just a special kind of them picture cards, with all them Egyptian thingamajigs on ’em.
So, what’s the deal with these Egyptian Tarot cards? Well, I reckon they’re just another way folks try to make sense of the world. Life’s hard, you know?
