Okay, so today I decided to mess around with this whole “moon square mercury” thing in my birth chart. I’ve been hearing about it a lot, and frankly, it sounded like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, but I was curious.
First, I dug up my birth chart. I already had it saved from some website I used ages ago. If you don’t have yours, you’ll need your birth date, time, and location. There are tons of free sites that will calculate it for you.
Once I had my chart, I started looking for the Moon and Mercury symbols. The Moon is easy, it’s, well, a moon. Mercury looks like a little circle with a cross and some horns. I found them both, and then I started looking for any lines connecting them. I noticed this harsh-looking red line – it went right between them, with a little square symbol in the middle. Yep, that’s the square.

So, what does this all mean? Well, from what I gathered from reading, a Moon-Mercury square is supposed to create some tension between your emotions (the Moon) and how you think and communicate (Mercury). It can supposedly lead to things like overthinking, miscommunication, or feeling like your head and heart are always battling it out.
My Little Experiment
To see if this held any water, I decided to track my day. I grabbed a notebook and jotted down any instances where I felt that head-heart conflict, or where I noticed communication issues.
- Morning: I had a minor disagreement with my partner about something silly. I noticed I was being overly analytical about it, picking apart their words instead of just listening to how they felt. Classic Mercury-Moon square, maybe?
- Afternoon: I spent way too long crafting a simple email. I kept rewriting it, worrying about how it would be perceived. Overthinking – check.
- Evening: I had a really good conversation with a friend. We were talking about something emotional, and I actually felt like I was able to express myself clearly and connect with them on a deeper level. Hmm, maybe this square isn’t all bad?
By the end of the day, I realized it is really interesting. I definitely saw some patterns that seemed to align with the whole Moon-Mercury square thing. I wouldn’t say it’s 100% accurate, but it did give me some food for * isn’t a very serious thing to be done. It’s more about being aware of your tendencies and working on them.I’m just sharing my own little journey.
