So, I got this wild idea the other day. I’ve been collecting Magic: The Gathering cards forever, and I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool to have some in Chinese?” I’m not fluent or anything, but I love the look of the characters, and it just seemed like a neat addition to my collection.
First, I tried to find some reliable information online. I mean, where do you even start with something like this? It’s not like my local game store carries Chinese cards, though I should have asked there. I spent hours googling, and it felt like going in circles. Forums, Reddit threads… you name it, I looked at it.
Then, it hit me. I remembered a friend of a friend who actually lives in China. I reached out, figuring it was a long shot, but hey, you never know. I sent a message, basically begging for help. “Dude, any chance you could snag some Chinese Magic cards for me?”
Surprisingly, he was totally up for it! He explained that they’re pretty easy to find over there, especially in bigger cities. He even offered to go to a local game store and pick some out for me. I was stoked! We talked about what sets I was interested in (mostly newer stuff, just for the aesthetic), and I sent him some money through an online transfer.
The waiting was the hardest part. I was constantly refreshing my email, hoping for updates. After about a week, he sent me pictures! He’d found a bunch of booster packs and even a few pre-constructed decks. They looked awesome! All those intricate characters, it was exactly what I was hoping for.
He shipped them out, and another agonizing wait began. It felt like forever, but finally, a package arrived at my doorstep. I ripped it open like a kid on Christmas morning. Inside were all these beautiful Chinese Magic cards. I spent the rest of the day just looking at them, trying to decipher the names and abilities (with limited success, I’ll admit).
Here’s what I ended up doing:
- Asked around to see if anyone had ideas.
- Reached out to a distant connection who lives in China.
- Sent money for the cards and shipping.
- Waited (im)patiently for them to arrive.
- Finally get my cards!
It was definitely a roundabout way to get them, but totally worth it. Now I have a unique little section in my collection, and a cool story to go with it. It just goes to show, sometimes the craziest ideas can actually work out!
