Okay, so I’ve been wanting to do something a bit different lately, something crafty. I’ve always liked those Chinese zodiac designs, you know, the animals. So I thought, “Why not make a poster?” Let’s dive into how I made this thing.
Brainstorming and Sketching
First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil. I needed to figure out how I wanted this poster to look. I started by jotting down all 12 animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Phew, that’s a lot!
I doodled some quick sketches of each animal. I’m no artist, so these were pretty rough, just to get a basic idea of the shapes and poses. I wanted them to look kinda cute, not too serious.

Choosing a Style
Next up, I had to decide on the overall style. I considered a few options:
- Traditional: Like those old-school Chinese paintings.
- Modern: Something cleaner, with simple shapes and bright colors.
- Cartoonish: Super cute and playful.
I went with the cartoonish style because, well, it’s just more fun! And honestly, easier for me to draw.
Going Digital
Once I had a general idea, I moved to my computer. I used a simple drawing program, I ain’t got nothin’ fancy. Then I picked up a color scheme, and chose a friendly warm color to make it delightful.
I spent a good chunk of time refining the sketches, adding details, and making sure everything looked balanced. It was a lot of trial and error, moving things around, resizing, and tweaking until I was happy.
Final Touches
Finally, I added a simple background. I didn’t want anything too distracting, so I went with a light, neutral color.
And that’s it! My very own Chinese zodiac poster. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It was a fun little project, and I learned a thing or two along the way. Maybe I’ll try another one next year!
