Okay, here’s my blog post about making a 1984-themed birthday card, written in the style you requested:
So, my buddy’s a huge Orwell fan, right? And his birthday was coming up, so I thought, “Why not make him a 1984 birthday card?” Seemed like a fun little project.
First, I scrounged around for some materials. I found some thick, kinda brownish cardstock that looked appropriately…dystopian. You know, like old paper. I also grabbed some black ink, a fine-tipped pen, and a ruler.

The Design
I wanted it to be simple, but impactful. I mean, it’s 1984, not a rainbow unicorn party. Here’s what I did:
- I folded the cardstock in half. Basic, I know.
- On the front, I decided to go with the classic “BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU” slogan. I sketched it out lightly in pencil first, making sure it was centered and all that.
- Then, I went over the pencil lines with the black ink. I tried to make the letters look a little…blocky, and uneven. Not too perfect, you know? Like it was printed on some old, beat-up printing press.
- I used simple letter style.
- Underneath the slogan, I drew a simple, stylized eye. Just a circle with a smaller circle inside, and a few lines radiating out. Super basic, but it gets the point across.
Inside the card, I just wrote a simple birthday message. Something like, “Happy Birthday! Hope your telescreen isn’t watching too closely today.” Gotta keep it light, even with the totalitarian theme.
The whole thing took maybe an hour, tops. It wasn’t some masterpiece of art or anything, but it looked pretty cool. And more importantly, my friend loved it. He said it was the most “Orwellian” birthday card he’d ever gotten, which I took as a compliment.
So yeah, that’s how I made a 1984 birthday card. Easy peasy, and a fun little way to celebrate a friend’s birthday with a bit of a nerdy twist.
