Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “zodiac coins” things all over the place, and I finally decided to give it a shot myself. I’m not really into astrology, but the coins looked cool, and I thought it would be a fun little project.
First, I gathered my materials. I went for:
- Some blank metal discs. I found these at a craft store.
- A set of metal stamps with the zodiac symbols. Ordered these online, took a while to arrive!
- A hammer. Just a regular old hammer from my toolbox.
- A sturdy surface to work on. I used a thick piece of wood.
- Some black paint and a fine-tipped brush (optional, for making the designs pop).
Then I got to work. It’s pretty straightforward, really.

I placed a disc flat on the wood. Make sure it is secure, do not want it to move when hammered. I carefully selected the zodiac stamp I wanted (I started with my own sign, of course!), and positioned it in the center of the disc. This part took a little practice to get it lined up just right.
Next, the fun part – hammering! I held the stamp firmly in place and gave it a few good, solid whacks with the hammer. The first time, I didn’t hit it hard enough, and the impression was barely visible. So, I tried again, a bit harder this time. Much better!
It is important to apply the correct strength of the hammer, I spent half an hour repeatedly practicing hammering the stamp, the sound is really noisy.
I repeated this process for each of the zodiac signs, making a coin for each one. Some of the stamps were trickier than others – the ones with finer details needed a bit more care and attention.
Once I had all twelve coins stamped, I decided to add a little extra touch. I used a tiny bit of black paint and a very fine brush to fill in the stamped designs. This really made them stand out, and gave the coins a more finished look. It’s a bit fiddly, but worth it, I think.
Final Result
And that’s it! I now have a complete set of zodiac coins. They’re not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. It was a fun, relaxing project, and I learned a new skill. Maybe I’ll make some more as gifts… or maybe I’ll just keep them all for myself!
