Okay, so today I wanted to dive into understanding the 3 of Wands card from the Tarot, but not just in a general sense. I wanted to see what it felt like as a person. Like, if the 3 of Wands walked into a room, who would they be?
First, I grabbed my well-worn Rider-Waite deck. I’ve had this deck for years, and it always feels comfortable in my hands. I shuffled the cards, focusing on the question: “Who is the 3 of Wands as a person?” I cut the deck and there it was, the 3 of Wands staring back at me.
I laid the card out on my table. The image, you know, the one with the figure looking out at the ships, it always gets to me. It’s such a powerful feeling of anticipation and looking towards the future. I spent a good few minutes just gazing at the card, letting the image sink in.

Then I started to brainstorm. I grabbed my notebook and just started jotting down words, whatever came to mind when I thought about that figure on the card:
- Visionary
- Planner
- Patient (but maybe a little restless)
- Confident
- Forward-thinking
- Maybe a bit of a loner, comfortable in their own company
I started to picture this person in my mind. I imagined them as someone who is always thinking several steps ahead. They’re not impulsive; they carefully consider their options before making a move. It is someone who has planned and is acting on the plans.
I then imagined having a conversation with this 3 of Wands person. What would they talk about? Probably their big plans, the ventures they’re launching, the future they’re building. They might be excited, but also grounded. They’ve put in the work; they’re not just dreaming.
After that, I tried to embody the energy of the 3 of Wands myself. I stood up, looked out my window (pretending it was a vast ocean!), and thought about my own goals. What am I working towards? What seeds have I planted that I’m waiting to see grow?
It was a really interesting exercise. It helped me connect with the card on a deeper level. The 3 of Wands isn’t just some abstract concept; it’s a feeling, a mindset, a way of being.
It is a person with plans and confidence, and with the right mindset, you could have them, too!
