Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try a really big tarot spread for a while now. I finally decided to go for it today with a 12-card spread. I’ve done smaller ones before, you know, like the three-card spreads, but 12 cards? That’s a whole different beast!
Getting Started
First things first, I cleared my space. I mean really cleared it. I lit some incense (my favorite sandalwood), put on some chill music, and made sure my cat wouldn’t jump on the table mid-reading. Gotta have that good vibe, right?
Then, I got my deck out. It’s this beautiful, worn-in deck that I’ve had for years. I shuffled the cards while focusing on my intention. Today, I wanted a general overview of my life, kind of like a big-picture check-in. I wasn’t looking for answers to a specific question, just general guidance.

The Shuffle and Draw
I shuffled for a good long while, really letting my intuition guide me. When it felt right, I stopped shuffling and cut the deck into three piles, then put them back into one. This is just my personal way of doing it, you can do whatever feels right for you.
Next, the moment of truth! I started drawing cards, one by one, and laying them out in the 12-card spread pattern I found online. It’s basically a big circle, with each card representing a different area of life, like “past influences,” “present situation,” “hopes and fears,” “future outcome,” and so on. There’s are some other spread patterns, you can pick anyone you like.
Making Sense of it All
With all 12 cards laid out, it was… a lot. Honestly, it was a little overwhelming at first! So many cards, so many symbols, so many potential meanings.
- I started by looking at each card individually, taking notes on my initial impressions. What images stood out? What feelings did the card evoke?
- Then, I started looking at the cards in relation to each other. Were there any connections between cards in adjacent positions? Any repeating themes or symbols?
- I used some Tarot books to help me make sure the meaning of each card.
The Outcome
It took a while, but I slowly started to piece together a narrative. The cards highlighted some areas where I’m doing well, and others where I could use some improvement. It wasn’t all sunshine and roses, of course – there were some challenging cards in there, too. But that’s life, right? It’s never all good or all bad.
Overall, the 12-card spread was a really insightful experience. It gave me a lot to think about and helped me see my life from a broader perspective. I definitely plan to do this again, maybe once a month or so, as a way to check in with myself and track my progress. It’s like a little self-therapy session with my trusty tarot deck!
